Where It All Began...

Mr & Mrs Turkington (1951)

The place where great bread isn't just baked; it's born.

Our story began in the heart of Cookstown, Northern Ireland, back in January 1951, when Mr. & Mrs. Turkington opened the Corner Cake Shop. They originally rented the small unit from family, who gave them three months free rent to help them get their business of the ground.

The bakery actually opened on the corner of Orritor Street and Oldtown Street, but the family quickly outgrew this premise and hand to move one door up!

But we stuck with the 'Corner' in our name because with us, great taste is always just around the corner!

Little did they know, they'd be starting a family tradition that would knead its way through three generations.

A Legacy of Love and Craftsmanship

Ruth & Geordie Anderson (2nd Generation)

From the crackle of the first loaf, our bakery became a place of craft and care.

Passed down from Mr. & Mrs. Turkington to their daughter Ruth and her husband Geordie Anderson. Under their guidance, the bakery became a community landmark, a place where locals weren't just customers but part of an extended family story that was told with every slice of bread and each piece of pastry.

Ruth and Geordie didn't just run a bakery; they nurtured a legacy, passionately crafting each loaf as an homage to past and future bakers of the Turkington line."

Honouring Tradition with Every Bake

Timothy & Sharon Anderson (3rd Generation)

Their son Timothy and his wife Sharon continued the family tradition, infusing classic recipes with fresh ideas while maintaining the beloved flavours of Northern Irish homes.

Their era was marked by a seamless fusion of the old and the new, where reverence for the past and enthusiasm for the future lived in every bite. Yet, through all the changes and enhancements, one element steadfastly remained the same: our unwavering commitment to using only the finest ingredients to craft the finest bread—a tradition that has been the cornerstone of our bakery from the very beginning.

During their tenure, they not only upheld the bakery's reputation but also expanded its reach, beginning to supply retail outlets across the country.

Fresh Out the Oven: A New Twist on Timeless Tastes

Martin Booth (Dec 2021 - Present)

In December 2021, the bakery left the Turkington/Anderson family's flour-dusted hands and was acquired by Martin Booth.

With a growing range of over 200 product lines, including oven bread, yeast bread, hot plate items, cakes, traybakes, and pastries, Martin decided it was time for a fresh look (with a new rebrand). The Corner Cake Shop became Corner Bakery – a name that reflects the wide variety of baked goods we create from scratch every day.

Despite the new name, some things haven’t changed. We still bake with the same passion, using only the finest ingredients, free from preservatives and additives. Because when you’ve been perfecting recipes for over 70 years, you don’t need anything artificial.

...and the story of our bakery continues!
